Slate House Signs & Name Plates

Made with natural slate with smooth, but not highly polished surface.
This shows the markings and grain of this lovely material - each piece is different.
For the standard size signs we use slate between 10mm and 15mm thick.

SIZES
The standard size slate house signs have heights of 100mm (4 inches), 150mm (6 inches) and 225mm (9 inches) There can only be one line of text on 100mm high slate and one or two lines on the 150mm and 225mm. The length is determined by the number of letters. The only acception to this is the 225mm (9 inch) in the one line of text, please go to our made to measure service.

	One line of text - Upper case - font Gill Sans (letters spread out) Letters raised an unpainted.	One line of text - Upper/ lower case - font Prose Antique Letters and border raised & unpainted.
	LETTERS The letters are normally painted silver, gold or white. However we occasionally use cream and black. We can also blast the background away leaving the letters raised and unpainted. When leaving letters raised we must use bold fonts without any fine line. For a selection of fonts - CLICK HERE Further fonts can also be seen on the Gallery Page. Letter size is not fixed and is normally adjusted to suit the sign. If you have something particular in mind - just put it on the order form.

BORDERS
We can add a line border with indented or square corners at a cost of £5.00. Another interesting technique is the border in relief where the slate around the outside of the sign is blasted away leaving the required shape in the middle. The cost of a border in relief is £7.50.
When the letters are raised and unpainted there is no extra cost for surrounding or line borders.

border in relief. Holes on this sign, if required,
would normally be in the four corners.

HOLES
It is difficult to drill holes into slate as it requires plenty of water to keep the slate cool. We can drill the holes for you @ £1 per hole. We would suggest 2 holes on the 100mm high slate and 4 holes on larger slates.
If you do decide to use one of the many adhesives now available we would suggest additional support is used, particularly for the larger signs.
