Douglas Firs is not actually a fir, nor is is a a pine or a spruce. Instead it is a distinct species named after Archibald Menzies. The timber has a redish/brown to yellow/orange colour and is not only extremely hard and durable with great strength but is relatively water resistant, which makes it a perfect timber for an external sign. Please note that the grain is much coarser then oak and hairline cracks tend to be a feature of the wood.
The Douglas Fir is planed down to 25mm thick and the planks come in at 225mm & 300mm wide but we can join timbers for larger signs.
We have a large selection of fonts (styles of lettering) We can also use a simple image or a border.
For other large signs try English Oak or Red Cedar
