About Us
From rural workshops hidden away in the North Devon countryside, The Sign Maker makes house signs, business signage, engraved plaques and memorials to suit all budgets. They are all made by craftsmen just the way you want them. We use all kinds of different materials for making signs which can be cut to any size. We also have a huge selection of fonts and standard images to use on the signs. You can tell us your ideas and the designers will create a proof to make sure everything is just the way you want. For the wooden signs there are different timbers which can be used. Oak is the most popular timber as it is very beautiful. Iroko is a close second due to the fact that it is full of its own oil and therefore a low maintenance wooden sign. Chestnut is also very durable and similar looking to oak. Sapele looks very much like mahogany but is more sustainable. Balau is idea for memorial tablets. Painted signs have recently become very popular indeed and we have a large range of colours which can be used included many Farrow and Ball Colours. We use oak and accoya for the painted signs along with the very durable Tricoya board.
Stone signs and memorials are made mainly in slate and granite which can be cut to almost any size from small house numbers to heavy weight boulders. The slate thicknesses are 12mm, 20mm, 30mm, 50mm and 75mm. Other stone can also be ordered. The purbeck stone is more expensive but a lovely stone full of fossils.
More modern materials are often used for business signage. These included aluminium for sign boards, tray signs, entrance signs and finger posts. An aluminium composite is ideal for good value sign boards which can be used anywhere. There is also PVC, fibreglass and polyurethane which are also very durable and require very little maintenance.
