The carpenters at The Sign Maker make thousands of beautiful wooden signs along with wooden memorials tablets, crosses and plaques. Although oak is the most popular wood in our wooden sign range, we have many other timbers on the racks. These include cherry, sapele, opepe, red cedar, douglas fir, balau, sycamore, ash and iroko. The standard finish for wooden signs, is an industrial varnish topped with woodcare milk. We also use Devon Wood Oil, High Gloss Coach Enamel and Osmo Oil. Our chestnut signs are a great cost-effective alternative to oak. The grain of the timber is similar to oak and it's high tannin content makes the chestnut very durable. Unlike oak it does not go black if not maintained. An excellent timber for smaller wooden signs.
