Wooden Memorials
Wooden Memorials, Oak Crosses, Wooden Memorial Plaques on Tree Stake, Wooden Headstones
Our wooden memorials are beautiful. We normally make them in oak, but also use a number of other timbers. Iroko is good in that it is full of its own oil so maintenance is easier. We can mount them on tree stakes or posts as required. The memorial are designed just the way you want them, using a huge selection of fonts and images. For woodland burials sites where metal is not allowed we can fix to tree stakes with wooden dowels. We can also shape the wood into hearts or ovals.
Wooden memorials will never last as long as slate, granite, or metal memorials. Wood does deteriorate, especially in wet conditions, and the lifespan depends on a number of factors, including the timber used, the amount of care given, and the position in which the memorial is placed. At The Sign Maker, we suggest using Iroko or Opepe, which are full of their own oil. Both can be left untreated to age naturally but we suggest treating it four times a year with Devon oil—a very natural oil. Oak treated with satin varnish is an option for plaques not placed on the ground. If possible, it is best to keep the memorial off the ground. For woodland burials, we can provide a wooden post with wooden dowels. If you want to place a wooden memorial on the ground, it would be best to use 90mm thick Iroko. Do not bury a wooden memorial into the ground.
